About Cassie
Cassie Wolfgram is a senior associate attorney with the firm. She regularly assists clients with a variety of personal and business litigation matters. Cassie graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology before attending law school at the University of Iowa College of Law. During law school, Cassie was an Iowa Law School Foundation Merit Scholar and served as an Articles Editor for the Journal of Gender, Race and Justice. She was also a quarterfinalist in the Van Oosterhout-Baskerville Moot Court Competition during law school. After law school, Cassie began her career in private practice in Iowa before moving to Minnesota in 2018. Cassie’s diverse litigation background includes extensive experience in all aspects of both civil and criminal litigation. She has extensive experience with discovery and motion practice. She has also tried numerous cases to jury verdict and argued multiple cases to the Court of Appeals. At Dougherty Molenda, Cassie assists clients in a wide variety of litigation matters, including Appeals, Business Torts and Unfair Competition, Commercial Litigation, Conciliation Court, Construction Defects, Contract Disputes, Debt Collection, Defamation, Employment Litigation, Intellectual Property Litigation, Manufacturing Disputes, Real Estate, Shareholder Litigation, Trade Secret Misappropriation. Outside of work, Cassie enjoys hiking to waterfalls with her family and dogs. She loves puzzles and has completed multiple escape rooms throughout the area. Cassie spends most of her free time supporting her children and their various activities, including Lego League, coding, band, piano, and singing. Cassie’s appointment reflects her reputation for precise briefing, thoughtful issue selection, and a practical understanding of how the appellate rules work in real cases. Cassie’s practice centers on civil appeals in the Minnesota Court of Appeals and Minnesota Supreme Court. She handles post-trial motions, preserves and frames issues for review, drafts merits and amicus briefs, manages record preparation, and argues appeals. She also advises trial teams on standards of review and interlocutory strategy (e.g., petitions for discretionary review and petitions for further review), helping clients position matters for the best possible outcome on appeal. On October 28, 2024, the Minnesota Court of Appeals issued a published decision reversing and remanding a disqualification from public employment. This case marks a pivotal interpretation of Minnesota’s Criminal Offender Rehabilitation Act (CORA). Cassie Wolfgram argued that once an applicant presents competent evidence of rehabilitation as defined by Minn. Stat. § 364.03, subd. 3(a), a hiring authority does not retain discretion to disqualify the applicant based solely on a prior conviction. The Court of Appeals agreed, concluding that Minnesota IT Services-the central IT organization for the State of Minnesota-had misapplied the statute by failing to acknowledge demonstrated rehabilitation. This reversal emphasizes Minnesota's commitment to second chances and fair consideration of individuals’ rehabilitation efforts. Cassie’s thorough research and analysis, and articulate brief-writing, were instrumental in achieving this outcome, reflecting our firm’s mission to provide outstanding advocacy for our clients.
