Attorney Daniel E. Casagrande is known as the “Giant Slayer” for his high-profile Municipal Law work, particularly in tax appeal cases. He has been recognized with prestigious awards including a Marvin J. Glink Private Practice Local Government Lawyer of the Year award from the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA) in 2019 and a Distinguished Leaders award in the 2023 New England Legal Awards. He was also named to the Connecticut Super Lawyers list in 2022 and 2025. With a career spanning nearly 40 years, Attorney Casagrande specializes in Municipal Law, Planning & Zoning Land Use, and Land Use & Environmental Law. He has served as outside Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Danbury since 1990 and was appointed Corporation Counsel in 2023. His notable cases include successfully representing Danbury in the Union Carbide tax assessment appeal and Waterford in the Millstone Nuclear Power Station valuation appeal. He also overturned an antitrust precedent in the Connecticut Supreme Court in 2020 regarding real estate brokerage fees. He is an ex-officio member and former president of the Connecticut Association of Municipal Attorneys.
