About Kathleen
Kathleen Becket is an attorney specializing in civil rights, special education, employment and appeals. Kathleen graduated from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles as the recipient of the American Law Institute Scholarship & Leadership Award, the National Association of Women Attorneys Outstanding Graduate Award, and Honors in Public Interest. She holds a master's degree in special education, and a bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis. Kathleen was a top oralist in the Scott Moot Court Competition, and later served on the Honors Board, representing Loyola in two national moot court competitions. She also founded Loyola's Impact Litigation Coalition, chaired the Labor & Employment Law Society, was a Legal Writing Program peer tutor, and served as a Team Leader for the Young Lawyers Program. Her summers included a Peggy Browning Fellowship and a clerkship with Public Counsel's Statewide Education Rights Division. As a post-bar clerk with Loyola's Juvenile Innocence & Fair Sentencing (JIFS) Clinic, Kathleen prevailed in appellate briefing and oral argument against a Deputy Attorney General in a case involving the trial court's denial of Penal Code § 1170(d)(2) entitlements. She continues to represent another JIFS client on habeas corpus, now before the Second District Court of Appeal, which recently order supplemental briefing pursuant to In re Jenkins (2023) 14 Cal.5th 493, the precedential California Supreme Court ruling concerning the Attorney General's post-conviction Brady disclosure obligations.
