About Kyle

Mr. Colson joined Donahue and Kililis, P.C., in June of 2024. He primarily represents clients accused of criminal and petty offenses. Prior to joining Donahue and Kililis, he practiced with a firm in Crystal Lake, Illinois, where he handled a variety of case types including criminal and petty matters, family law, divorce, tenant law, driver’s license reinstatements, business and corporate matters, evictions, small claims, and Social Security insurance. Mr. Colson strives to be a zealous advocate and works tirelessly to obtain the best possible results for his clients. His experience across a wide range of practice areas enables him to help clients facing a variety of different legal situations. Mr. Colson believes in the importance of practicing law with empathy and compassion, and he always aims to be of service to his clients. That philosophy was shaped, in part, by his experiences as a law student. He attended Northern Illinois University College of Law and graduated with honors in 2020. While enrolled, he worked as a student advocate for the database company LexisNexis, where he helped other law students study and learn to perform effective legal research. He also worked as a clinical attorney for NIU’s Health Advocacy Clinic. The Health Advocacy Clinic is a medical-legal partnership where attorneys, medical professionals, and social workers help people struggling with homelessness to apply for Medicaid, secure SNAP benefits, and overcome barriers to self-sufficiency and a better life. Mr. Colson also sought out experience that would give him solid grounding across many areas of the law. In addition to his work with LexisNexis and the NIU Health Advocacy Clinic, he also served as a student attorney in NIU’s General Counsel’s Office, where he assisted the General Counsel with a plethora of legal issues. While not in the office, at the courthouse, or with his family, Mr. Colson volunteers in his local community. He currently serves on the Board of Trustees for the Police Pension of Pingree Grove, Illinois.
