About Matthew

Matthew P. Cook became a litigation partner at Kerrick Bachert, PSC, in August 2017. He has been practicing law in Bowling Green since 1998, previously with Cole & Moore, P.S.C. Matt concentrates on insurance defense and handles a wide range of transactional and litigation matters, including general civil litigation, commercial and business litigation, employment law, professional malpractice, and insurance coverage disputes. He also provides guidance to governmental entities and businesses on contract drafting and compliance issues. In 1994, Matt received an A.B. with honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He then went on to obtain a J.D. cum laude from the University of Louisville, Louis D. Brandeis School of Law in 1998. Matt was admitted to the Kentucky Bar Association in 1998 and is also admitted to practice before the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky. He has an AV Preeminent* peer review rating through Martindale-Hubbell and was honored with the Kentucky Bar Association's Outstanding Young Lawyer Award in 2012. Matt holds multiple prestigious positions within the legal community. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Kentucky Bar Association, a Life Member of the Sixth Circuit Judicial Conference, and a Life Fellow of the Kentucky Bar Foundation. In 2010, he was elected as president of the Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association, after previously serving as vice president, treasurer, secretary and director. In recognition of his outstanding public service, Matt was honored with the 2013 Gwyneth B. Davis Outstanding Public Service Award by the Bowling Green-Warren County Bar Association. Matt is a member of the Louisville Bar Association, Kentucky Bar Association, Federal Bar Association and American Bar Association. He was appointed by the Chief Justice of Kentucky to serve as the Second Supreme Court District representative on the Kentucky Continuing Legal Education Commission from 2011-2016. Recently, he was honored to be nominated and accepted membership as a fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Matt has also contributed as a member of the Kentucky Bar Association's Budget and Finance Committee and served as the CLE Program Chair for the 2017 KBA Annual Convention. Matt co-authored a chapter on "Closing Arguments" in multiple editions of Kentucky Civil Practice at Trial for the University of Kentucky Continuing Legal Education Series. He graduated from Leadership Bowling Green and is an active member of Broadway United Methodist Church. Additionally, he serves on the Site-Based Decision Making Council of W.R. McNeill Elementary School in Bowling Green. In his free time, Matt dedicates himself to various volunteer activities. He mentors at T.C. Cherry Elementary School, instructs for Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky at multiple schools, coaches Western Kentucky University's Mock Trial Team, leads a Cub Scout group, and coaches his children's sports teams.
