About Timothy

Timothy J. Profeta is an associate in the firm’s litigation department and focuses his practice on civil litigation with an emphasis on personal injury and employment law. Tim is also well versed in criminal, traffic, and DWI law and serves as municipal prosecutor for five municipalities and boroughs. Further, he currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Center for Prevention and Counseling, right here in Newton. Prior to joining Morris, Downing & Sherred, Tim practiced at larger litigation firms in both Morris County and Sussex County. Before that, he served as a law clerk to the Honorable Maritza Berdote Byrne, P.J.Ch in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division. While in law school, Tim externed for the Honorable Walter F. Timpone at the New Jersey Supreme Court. He was also a fellow with Seton Hall University School of Law’s Center for Policy Research where he was on a team that represented two detainees in Guantanamo Bay. As a fellow, he co-authored an article titled, “How America Tortures,” which detailed the CIA’s policy regarding “enhanced interrogation techniques” at both Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib. Before graduating, he further served as a student attorney with Seton Hall’s Impact Litigation Clinic. In that capacity, Tim and his partner successfully argued before the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, which vacated a decision issued by the Board of Immigration Appeals. Tim was raised in Stillwater Township and attended Kittatinny Regional High School, where he proudly wrestled under Coach Gill. After that, Tim attended Rhode Island College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Sociology, and graduated magna cum laude. He then received his Juris Doctorate, cum laude, from Seton Hall University School of Law. Tim is admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey.
