A federal jury in Miami recently delivered a pivotal verdict in a case involving a fatal Tesla crash, finding the company partly to blame for a tragic 2019 accident that reignited national debates over self-driving technology and legal responsibility. The deadly Tesla accident occurred in Key Largo, Florida, when a Tesla Model S running on Enhanced Autopilot failed to brake at an intersection. This resulted in the death of 22-year-old Naibel Benavides Leon and serious injury to her boyfriend, Dillon Angulo.

Additional Notes

Jury found Tesla 33% at fault. $200 million as punitive damages and $42.5 million as compensatory damages (Tesla's portion). Remaining liability assigned to distracted driver who settled with families.
