Pennsylvania family awarded $55 million after suing a hospital and doctor for medical malpractice. St. Luke’s University Hospital and Dr. Ronald Kirner ignored signs that a baby boy was not getting enough oxygen during his November 2009 birth and should have been delivered via Caesarean section.

Matthew Crowell lost oxygen when stuck during vaginal delivery. Mother hemorrhaged. Matthew suffers from cerebral palsy and is developmentally delayed. Jury decided St. Luke’s and Kirner each 50% to blame. Family unlikely to get full amount due to pre-verdict cap agreement.
