Settlement reached in a wrongful death case against Iowa State University (ISU) for the death of a rower, Yaakov Ben-David, who drowned when the ISU Crew Club boat capsized during practice in challenging weather conditions due to alleged inadequate oversight, training, and emergency preparation by the university.
Additional Notes
The settlement-which is still pending final approval in June-does not include admission of wrongdoing by the university or the state. Notably, this wrongful death settlement follows a multi-million that was reached between ISU and the family of the other victim (Derek Nanni) in 2022.
