Case Details
Settlement for the family of a young man who died from complications of a massive stroke caused by an undiagnosed vertebral artery dissection, due to a primary care provider's failure to recognize stroke symptoms.
Additional Notes
We represented the family of a young man who after developing severe headaches and experiencing episodes of blurred vision, one-sided numbness, dizziness, and a feeling of drunkenness established care with a primary care provider. The primary care provider failed to recognize that the episodes may be instances of stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). The young man later suffered a massive stroke caused by an undiagnosed vertebral artery dissection. The stroke caused locked-in syndrome, meaning he was conscious while nearly all voluntary muscles in his body were paralyzed. He died 10 months later from complications of his stroke.
