Man suffered extensive burns and severe injuries when defective gasoline equipment (Liquid Controls meter and Blackmer pump) malfunctioned and exploded into flames. The Liquid Controls meter had a defective strainer.

Blackmer settled before closing arguments. The jury returned a verdict of $5,000,000, the largest personal injury verdict in the history of Nebraska at that time.
