The victim, David Long, was stepping off the trolley at the 12th and Imperial Transit Station on May 23, 2013, when he tripped over a two-inch piece of track where workers had ground down the asphalt. Long hit his head on the platform and suffered fractures to the vertebrae in his neck. A lawsuit was filed in January 2014 against the Metropolitan Transit System, HMS Construction, San Diego Transit Corporation and other defendants.
