A jury imposed a $200 million verdict against Trans Health Management Inc. for the fatal fall of a 92-year-old resident, Elvira Nunziata, at Pinellas Park Care and Rehabilitation Center. The facility was found negligent for understaffing and failing to prevent the fall, despite the resident's history of falls.
Additional Notes
Verdict included $60 million in compensatory damages and $140 million in punitive damages. The resident was found at the bottom of about 10 stairs, still strapped in her wheelchair.
