Case Details
Federal jury awarded a bricklayer-carpenter, Jerry Ross, whose left hand was nearly severed by a Black & Decker power miter saw lacking a right side lower blade guard. The saw was found to be unreasonably dangerous. Initial award was $12 million ($10 million punitive, $2 million compensatory). Appeals court later reduced punitive damages to $5 million, making the total $7 million.
