Brooke Taylor, a commercial litigator, suffered a serious brain injury when she was 38 years old. On April 24, 2016, she was struck by a Seattle Fire Department ambulance at an intersection. The ambulance had lights and siren on but did not slow down as required. Taylor was awarded $65.7 million in a settlement with the city. Her physicians thought she might not survive, and it is unlikely she will return to her job as a litigator. This was the largest settlement the city has ever had to pay out.
