Dean K. Adams

Dean K. Adams joined the firm in 1990. He is a general practitioner focusing on workers’ compensation, personal injury, civil litigation, family law, and real estate. Dean is active in many professional and civic activities, including serving as Past President of the Mower County Bar Association, Austin Noon Lion’s Club, Austin Public Education Foundation, and the Parenting Resource Center.

Steven J. Hovey was born in 1962 and obtained his law degree with distinction from the University of North Dakota in 1987. He was admitted to practice in North Dakota in 1987 and in Minnesota in 1988, joining the firm that year. Mr. Hovey practices primarily in civil litigation, personal injury, workers' compensation, products liability, business organization, labor, employment, and insurance law. He is a member of the Minnesota Defense Lawyers Association and has lectured on Employment Policies for employers.

John S. Beckmann was born in 1954 and received his law degree cum laude from the University of Minnesota in 1979. He specializes in products liability, personal injury, wrongful death, employment law, commercial disputes, fire, arson, and construction litigation. He has been recognized by his peers as a lecturer and has published legal monographs. Mr. Beckmann is listed in Minnesota Law and Leading Attorneys for Civil Litigation and Personal Injury Law and is a member of the Minnesota Bar Association Advisory Committee relating to jury instructions.

Paul V. Sween

Paul V. Sween joined the firm in 1972 and has over 50 years of legal experience. He specializes in agricultural law, corporate and business law, real estate transactions, banking law, and trusts and estates. He is active in community affairs, including serving as a past president of the Austin Chamber of Commerce. In 2024, he received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

Chandler St Michel was born in 1996 and received a Bachelor of Arts in political science in 2018 and his Juris Doctor in 2022 from the University of North Dakota. During law school, he clerked for judicial districts in North Dakota and a law firm in Minnesota. Mr. St Michel joined Hoversten, Johnson, Beckmann & Hovey LLP in 2022 and primarily practices in personal injury, contractual disputes, family law, evictions, and estate planning.

Marty G. Helle was born in 1974 and received two bachelor's degrees from Iowa State University in 1996, and graduated with honors from Drake University Law School in 2000. He was admitted to practice law in Iowa in 2000 and joined the firm in January 2001, also licensed in Minnesota. Mr. Helle primarily practices in real estate, probate, banking law, medical assistance/nursing home planning, evictions, and foreclosures, representing many banks and landlords in Mower County and surrounding areas.
