After graduating from the University of Nebraska College of Law, Steve Dowding returned to his hometown of Grand Island, Nebraska to begin practicing law with his father and start this law firm. In addition to fighting for those that have been harmed, Steve is passionate about fighting for the rights of the accused. Steve focuses his law practice primarily in the areas of criminal defense, workers’ compensation, and personal injury litigation with an emphasis in the defense of citizens accused of driving under the influence - DWI / DUI. Steve has received extensive training in DWI detection, standardized field sobriety testing and gas chromatography.
Vince Dowding
After graduating second in his University of Nebraska law school class, Vince Dowding moved to Grand Island to begin practicing law. He was only one year out of law school when he built the case that stopped the involuntary sterilization of people with mental handicaps in Nebraska. He got the case accepted to be heard by the United States Supreme Court prompting the Legislature to change the law. Vince Dowding also had the opportunity to argue a case before the United States Supreme Court on the constitutionality of requiring indigent inmates to pay a fee to appeal a case. He has always fought for justice for his clients and he founded this firm on the same principles. Vince founded this law firm in Grand Island in April of 1990. His youngest son, Steve, joined him in 1991. His oldest son, Joe, joined the firm in 1993 and opened the Lincoln office. Vince has experience in a vast array of practice areas with extensive experience in the fields of personal injury, workers compensation, family law, and estate/probate work. His years of experience and diverse legal background result in effective mediation for all types of legal disputes.
Joseph C. Dowding
Joe Dowding grew up watching his father, Vince Dowding, achieve great success fighting for justice for his clients. Joe decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. After working for a trial lawyer in law school and for several years thereafter, Joe decided to join his father and his brother and formed this law firm. Joe opened the Lincoln branch of this firm in 1993 and has dedicated himself to fighting for those who have been injured and deserve compensation. He has litigated thousands of cases, taking hundreds of cases to trial. He has the experience and passion to fight for the justice his clients deserve.

Bill, and his wife Cory, currently reside at Johnson Lake, NE, but most of the work week he can be found in our Broken Bow office. However, Bill does travel throughout the state to meet and represent office clients. Bill’s hobbies include hunting, fishing, boating, biking, classic cars, and travel.
Jeremiah J. Luebbe
Jeremiah J. Luebbe is the associate attorney at Steffens Law Office. Jeremiah received his undergraduate degree from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska, and earned his law degree from the University of Nebraska. Jeremiah and his wife, Cara, visit the Calamus Lake near Burwell throughout the spring, summer, and fall, where they both enjoy camping, fishing, and hunting. Jeremiah brings a diverse blend of legal experiences with him to Steffens Law Office that will serve clients exceptionally well as he strives to provide them with comprehensive legal representation. A former insurance defense and collection attorney, Jeremiah possesses 9 years of litigation and trial experience. He has argued cases before most, if not all, of Nebraska’s county court judges and has testified in front of the Unicameral’s Judiciary Committee. In the last 10 years, Jeremiah has concentrated his work on estate planning and personal injury matters. As an associate attorney with Steffens Law, he has successfully handled hundreds of cases, providing clients with skilled representation and dedicated service.
Jay Schrecengost
Jay is from California, where he practiced consumer rights law and has won settlements from every major automotive manufacturer many times over. He graduated cum laude from California State University Los Angeles in the top 5% of his class and graduated from Whittier Law School in the top 20% while working full time at Tesla. His home is in Lincoln with his wife Becky and young daughter, Sierra. Jay works in the personal injury division of our Lincoln and Broken Bow offices, and will travel anywhere in Nebraska to meet a client, anytime. When he isn’t working (rare), he loves mountain biking, snowboarding, and the five-string banjo.
