M. GAIL WILSON
Gail is a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a BA in history and political science and a JD from the University of Kentucky College of Law. She is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Western and Eastern Federal District Courts of Kentucky and the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. Her practice has been focused on helping others, whether in obtaining Social Security disability benefits, Workers Compensation benefits, personal injury or assisting with probate matters and estates or various other ways when legal assistance is needed. Gail is a strong advocate for her clients, providing high level representation with compassion and attention to detail. Before joining Helm Shearer Wilson, Gail practiced with Bertram & Wilson. Gail has served in many capacities with the Kentucky Bar Association, including serving on the KBA Board of Governors. She currently serves as the Russell County Master Commissioner, is counsel for the Bank of Jamestown and has served as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney. Gail has been named to Super Lawyers for 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 in the practice of Social Security.

Derrick G. Helm
Derrick is a lifelong resident of Russell County, Kentucky; he prides himself in serving the legal needs of south central Kentuckians. Since beginning his practice in 2009 with Bertram & Wilson in Jamestown, Derrick has developed a passion for assisting clients who have been injured as a result of someone else's negligence. Derrick focuses his practice on litigating the claims of his clients in both State and Federal Court and has a strong commitment to ensuring success for his clients. Derrick is admitted to practice in all of the Courts of the Commonwealth of Kentucky (2009), United States District Court Western District of Kentucky (2009), United States District Court Eastern District of Kentucky (2009) and the United States 6th Circuit Court of Appeals (2009). As a graduate of Western Kentucky University in 2006, and Salmon P. Chase College of Law (Northern Kentucky University) in 2009, Derrick has a strong connection to this region. In addition to Derrick's litigation practice, Derrick serves as General Counsel to the Lake Cumberland Area Development District and the Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency. Additionally, Derrick serves as a Regent on the Western Kentucky University Board of Regents and as a Board Member for the Kentucky Lottery Corporation.

KEVIN S. SHEARER
Kevin S. Shearer was elected the Russell County Attorney in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. He has worked extensively in prosecution cases for the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the citizens of Russell County, Kentucky. He also has broad knowledge and expertise in real estate, including but not limited to titles and deed preparation, contracts, and probate. Kevin graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BA in history and political science and a J.D. in 2000 from the University of Louisville Brandeis College of Law. Kevin, a native of Russell County, has practiced law in Jamestown since graduation from law school in 2000. He served as Assistant Russell County Attorney from 2000-2006 and has served as Russell County Attorney from 2010 to the present.

TERRAN CROSS HELM
Terran graduated as valedictorian of the 2003 class of Clinton County High School. She graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky in 2007, with a degree in Political Science. She received her Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2010. Terran practiced law in Albany, Kentucky with her father, David M. Cross, from 2010 - 2016. In the Fall of 2016, Terran was sworn in as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in the 57th Judicial Circuit (Russell and Wayne Counties). Terran also serves as an Assistant to the Russell County Attorney Kevin Shearer. Outside of prosecution, Terran’s practices of law primarily include Social Security Disability and family law.
