Richard Stermer
Richard Stermer has practiced in southwest Minnesota for more than 20 years. Rick practices primarily in the areas of bankruptcy, civil litigation, creditor rights, family law, and personal injury and wrongful death. In 2007, he was appointed as a United States Chapter 7 Panel Bankruptcy Trustee for the District of Minnesota. Rick has tried cases at both the Minnesota Supreme Court and the Minnesota Court of Appeals, most notably City of Morris v. Sax Investments, Inc., 749 N.W.2d 1 (Minn. 2008); In re Welfare of B.R.K., 658 N.W.2d 565 (Minn. 2003); and Lemcke v. Lemcke, 623 N.W.2d 916 (Minn. App. 2001). Born in Elmhurst, Illinios, Rick received his B.A., with distinction, in 1987, and his J.D. in 1991, both from Hamline University. Rick was admitted to the bar in 1991, and practiced law at Western Minnesota Legal Services in Willmar, Minnesota and Prindle, Maland, Sellner, Chartered in Montevideo, Minnesota before founding Stermer Law Firm, PLLC, and eventually merging with Prindle, Maland, Sellner, Chartered to form Stermer & Sellner, Chtd. in 2015. Rick is a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the National Association of Bankruptcy Trustees. In 2005, he was named the Central Minnesota Legal Service’s Volunteer Attorney of the Year. Rick currently serves on the board of directors for Brookside Manor. He has previously served on the boards of the Entrepreneur’s Assistance Network, Chippewa County Housing & Redevelopment, and Earthrise Farm.

Donald L. Maland
A native of Blue Earth, Minnesota, Donald L. Maland has been practicing law for 58 years. Don received his B.A. cum laude from St. Olaf College in 1952, and his J.D. from the University of Minnesota Law School in 1955. He was admitted to the bar in Minnesota in 1957 after serving in the United States Army. Don joined Prindle, Maland, Sellner in 1959, where he served as the Assistant County Attorney for Chippewa County. He practices in the areas of Real Estate Law, Estate Planning, Wills/Trusts, Probate, and Business and Employment Law. He will currently be serving in an “Of Counsel” position to the new firm. Don has served as a Special Municipal Judge for the City of Montevideo and on the Montevideo City Council. He is a member of the Chippewa County, Minnesota State, and American Bar Associations, and is also active in the Chippewa County Historical Society and the Montevideo Lions Club.

Krystal M. Lynne
Krystal was born and raised in Montevideo, Minnesota and attended South Dakota State University where she graduated with Honors College Distinction. While attending South Dakota State University she majored in Political Science, History, and Pre-law and minored in English. She attended Western Michigan University Thomas M. Cooley Law School, where she earned her Juris Doctorate and graduated with Honors. She is licensed to practice law in Minnesota and in the Minnesota District of federal court. Krystal has been with Stermer Law Firm since 2011, and with Stermer and Sellner, Chtd. since the two firms merged in 2015. She volunteers for the Chippewa County Historical Society, and sits on the Montevideo Area Community Foundation board.

John P. Sellner
Originally from Minneapolis, John P. Sellner found his way to Montevideo for a job interview after law school and fell in love with Western Minnesota, where he still resides today. A 1972 graduate of St. John’s University (B.A. cum laude in Philosophy) and a 1976 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School (J.D. magna cum laude), John practiced law in Montevideo for more than 30 years. John had substantial experience in representing individuals and businesses in the areas of real estate, business and corporate law, and estate planning, wills, trusts and probate. A Real Property Law Specialist certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association, John had extensive experience in real estate law. John was a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association and the American Bar Association, as well as the Eighth Judicial District Bar Association, where he served at various times as secretary, vice president and president. He also served on numerous corporate boards over the years, and has been actively involved in community service. He was elected to the Montevideo School Board in 1981 and continued on that board until 2004, serving as chairman several times. At his church, John served on the administrative council, parish council, and was the trustee for 10 years. John also was one of the original founding members of the Montevideo Foundation, and served on its Board of Directors for nine years. John Philip Sellner died peacefully at the University of Minnesota hospital on January 11, 2018.
