Paula McCandlis

Paula McCandlis started working in law in 1993, gaining experience in personal injury, wrongful death, criminal law, and family law. She attended Gonzaga University School of Law, where she successfully represented low-income clients. After graduation, she opened her own firm, handling complex cases. She joined Dean Brett as a partner in 2011, focusing on personal injury and wrongful death. She also served as a part-time Superior Court Commissioner and Judge, and became a part-time Magistrate Judge for the Western District of Washington in 2016. Dean Brett (Retired) is the founding member of Brett McCandlis Brown and Conner who recently retired. He offers advice, wisdom, leadership, and training on matters of ethics, rhetoric, and trial advocacy. He volunteers as a trainer at the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and Justice Advocacy Africa. He founded Brett & Daugert and focused on personal injury and wrongful death cases. He has 40+ years of experience.

David Brown

David Brown became a lawyer to solve problems, drawing on his blue-collar background. He worked for five years climbing telephone poles before law school. He is dedicated to helping clients understand their legal options and feel in control of their cases, especially against insurance companies. He focuses on personal injury law, ensuring clients receive fair compensation after injuries caused by negligence.

Peter A. Gilbert

Peter Gilbert has carried on the Gilbert family tradition of providing principled legal counsel to those in and around Skagit County. He began his career with an internship at the Skagit County Public Defender’s office, then worked as a deputy prosecutor for the Skagit County Prosecuting Attorney’s office from 1999 to 2001. After establishing his own criminal defense practice, he joined Gilbert & Gilbert Lawyers Inc, founded by his grandfather in 1921. He worked with his brother and father, and later became a sole practitioner before his sister Jayne rejoined him in 2011. His practice focuses on Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, and Business Formation.

Matt Conner

Matt Conner has a proven track record of success. He graduated from Willamette University with a double major in mathematics and economics, then worked as an economist for the State of Oregon and in mortgage banking/real estate. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Seattle University School of Law and joined the Brett Law Group. He handles various cases including multiparty litigation, gun violence, sexual misconduct, police misconduct, car accidents, traumatic brain injuries, and wrongful death. He is known for his compassion and dedication to clients.

Jayne Marsh Gilbert

Attorney Jayne Marsh Gilbert is the third generation of her family to practice law at Gilbert & Gilbert Lawyers Inc. She graduated from the University of Washington Law School in 1989. She passed the Alaska Bar and worked in Juneau, Alaska, then moved to Los Angeles, California, passing the California State Bar. She returned to Skagit County, passing the Washington State Bar in 1995, and rejoined the family firm in 2010/2011. Her primary practice areas are probate and estate planning, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, community property agreements, health care directives, and pre/post-nuptial agreements.
