There is nothing I love more than winning a case for my client. Over the last eighteen years, I’ve been fortunate to work with all types of people on all types of lawsuits. The one thing I never get tired of is helping someone achieve a just and fair outcome, whether that happens in a courtroom or a conference room. I am a veteran trial attorney with first-chair experience in federal, state and, appellate courts across the country, including Missouri, Illinois, New York, Nevada, South Dakota and New Mexico. I have represented individuals, family-owned companies, trade organizations, non-profits, and international corporations in all types of lawsuits, including personal injury, products liability, and wrongful death cases. I’ve handled trials lasting from one day to eight weeks, where the amounts at stake ranged from $10,000 to $2 billion dollars. No matter what the circumstances, I have the experience to successfully navigate the legal process, from the first phone call through a jury verdict and every step in between.

A.J. Bruning

I was born and raised to represent individuals who have been needlessly injured. I mean that literally. At a young age my father would tell me about the clients he was representing. I would meet them and take pride in their admiration of my father. I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer and represent clients that needed my help. I was an athlete in high school playing both football and track. I then went to undergrad at the University of Missouri where I could enjoy my passion for Mizzou sports up close. After obtaining my degree in Business Administration I went to St. Louis University for Law School. I knew I wanted to be in court so after law school I obtained a job working at the Circuit Attorney’s Office in the City of St. Louis. It was at the Circuit Attorney’s Office that I was able to hone my trial skills while representing victims of crime. At the Circuit Attorney’s Office, I tried over 50 cases starting with simple assaults and then eventually murder cases. I presided over the Grand Jury and was head of the Bomb and Arson unit. In 2011, I was honored with the Circuit Attorney “Trial Star” for winning every jury trial I tried that year. I represent individuals in Missouri and Illinois in all types of personal injury cases. In my short time here I have obtained a judgment for $2.5 million and settled a large class action lawsuit for a confidential amount. Super Lawyers Magazine has distinguished me a Rising Star in the field of product liability litigation. I try to give back to community when I can. I started the Downtown Neighborhood Watch Group and raise money for Multiple Sclerosis. I have been named National Multiple Sclerosis Corporate Achiever for my fund raising efforts. I love the city of St. Louis and support it whenever I can. Recently I was appointed by Mayor Francis Slay to serve on the Advisory Board for the Gateway Mall. Kevin Lane

I have been a personal injury trial attorney since 2013. Fighting for my clients is both my career and my passion. Kevin grew up in St. Louis. After graduating college from Miami University of Ohio, Kevin attended law school at The George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C. After graduating law school, Kevin moved back to St. Louis to represent clients who have been wronged by people and corporations, fighting for his clients to achieve the best outcome possible.

While in law school, Caroline gained experience working at a criminal defense and personal injury firm. After law school, Caroline worked for an insurance defense firm, honing her understanding of defense strategies. Prior to joining The Bruning Law Firm, Caroline worked for a sole practitioner specializing in personal injury. During this time, she gained valuable insights into the intricacies of client representation while also expanding her knowledge of marketing, firm administration, and business operations. This diverse experience has equipped her with a well-rounded skill set that enhances her ability to serve clients and contribute to the growth and efficiency of our firm.

Ken Viehland

Ken grew up in a working-class household in St. Louis and is proud to be the first attorney in his family. A career in law was attractive to him as he has always believed it is a great honor to be an advocate for those in need. After spending his first summer of law school clerking for the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, Ken was hired as a law clerk for The Bruning Law Firm in the fall of 2023. The lessons he learned over that time prepared him well for his transition to the role of an attorney and advocate for people who have been injured due to another’s negligence.

With a steadfast commitment to advocating for individuals in personal injury and workers’ compensation cases, I strive to provide compassionate and effective legal representation. My Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law laid the foundation for my understanding of client advocacy. The transformative experience gained in the law school’s criminal defense clinic further solidified my dedication to this principle, equipping me with the practical skills essential for achieving favorable outcomes for my clients. I initially began my legal career in insurance defense, which has provided me with a unique strategic perspective on how to best represent my clients today.
