Bruce Schottland

Bruce Schottland is a founding partner of Harter & Schottland, P.C.. He is an experienced litigator. He began his career at a large civil defense firm in Chicago . After gaining valuable experience in the civil area, Mr. Schottland left the firm to learn the art of Criminal Defense. Since then he has conducted countless contested hearings and has taken hundreds of cases to trial. He has defended individuals charged with traffic, criminal misdemeanors and the most serious felonies. Further, Mr. Schottland has maintained a varied civil practice by representing individuals and businesses in areas such as personal injury, eviction proceedings and contract disputes. Bruce Schottland was raised in Lake County, leaving only to attend the University of Illinois Law School. He is an active community partner and volunteers extensively. He is a longstanding board member for the Mano a Mano Family Resource Center where he also served as an Executive Board Member. He volunteered as a NICASA truancy court judge. He has also volunteered as a scholarship judge for the Round Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. Bruce also served as President of Chapter 932 of the Experimental Aircraft Association for four years. Jeremy Harter

Jeremy S. Harter is a founding partner of Harter & Schottland, P.C.. Before founding the firm, Mr. Harter developed his broad knowledge and expertise at another well known law firm. There, he was responsible for municipal prosecution and assisting in municipal corporate issues for two large villages in Lake County. In addition, Mr. Harter developed a practice in other areas, as well. Today, Mr. Harter brings this varied background to Harter & Schottland, P.C. where he represents individuals and businesses in civil litigation such as landlord / tenant cases, contractual disputes, liquor commission hearings, Illinois Secretary of State hearings and others. Moreover, Mr. Harter has extensive experience litigating traffic, misdemeanor and felony cases in both contested motion hearings and trials, where he has enjoyed tremendous success. He often receives 5 star reviews by his many loyal clients. In line with the firm’s commitment to the surrounding community, Mr. Harter also maintains a significant volunteer commitment. Mr. Harter has served as a Judge for the Teen Court program administered by the Northern Illinois Counsel on Alcohol and Substance Abuse (NICASA). In this role, Mr. Harter has helped countless Lake County adolescents learn from their youthful indiscretions, avoid damaging marks on their records and continue to successful futures. In fact, in 2005 Mr. Harter was formally recognized and received the NICASA Partner’s Award for his commitment to community service. Mr. Harter also volunteers for the College of Lake County’s Women’s Center where he provides free legal assistance. Jeremy volunteers his time with the Lake County Court Eviction Help Desk where he assists Lake County Residents with Landlord/Tenant issues for sitting Judge Michael Betar. He was appointed to the Lake County Bar Association Board of Directors, Antioch Police Pension Fund Trustee and the Board of Directors of the Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, Round Lake Area Chamber of Commerce. He was also an Editor of the 2021 Edition of the Defending DUI Practice and Procedure Manual for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE).

Ramon Cervantes

Partner, Ramon Cervantes has worked with Harter & Schottland, P.C. for more than 15 years. In that time, he has defended thousands of individuals charged with traffic, misdemeanor and criminal felony offenses taking many to contested hearings and trial. Ramon also represents people with Real Estate Closings and has an outstanding record of success in Driver’s License Reinstatement Hearings. Ramon is a lifelong resident of Lake County, being born here after his mother and father immigrated to the United States in 1964. He is fluent in both English and Spanish and takes a particular interest in assisting local underprivileged persons in need of legal help. Ramon volunteers his time on a weekly basis by providing free legal advice to members of the Holy Family Parish in Waukegan and Mano a Mano Family Resource Center in Round Lake Park. Ramon also organizes free legal seminars in the Round Lake Area in furtherance of his volunteer efforts.

Robert Deters

Robert Deters is a tireless advocate for his clients and always fights for his clients. Born and raised in Wisconsin, he is a proud Badger and graduate of the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a degree in International Relations. Later he attended the University of Wisconsin- Madison’s Law School, receiving his J.D. in 2005. While in law school Mr. Deters worked at the Innocence Project at the University of Wisconsin gaining valuable knowledge in how to right wrongs committed in the criminal justice system. In addition, he worked at the Wisconsin Supreme Court gaining valuable insight into the highest levels of jurisprudence. Since 2006 Mr. Deters has worked as a criminal defense attorney throughout the Chicagoland area. He has practiced and tried cases in Cook, DuPage, Kane, Will, McHenry, Boone and Lake Counties. In addition to representing clients at all levels of criminal cases, he also has done license reinstatement before the Secretary of State. After hearing from many clients of their difficulties post-sentence he also assists with Firearm Owner’s Identification Card revocation and denial appeals.
