In 2002, John became the fourth-generation lawyer with the firm joining his father, Mark, following his graduation from the University of Iowa and Drake Law School. John practices primarily in criminal defense, civil litigation, real estate and probate. He serves on several community boards, is married and is a very proud father of three daughters.

James T. Peters

James T. Peters is an experienced attorney focusing on estate planning, probate, tax law, real estate, municipal law, and business law.

Mark Mossman has retired after practicing law for over 45 years. He joined the practice in 1975 with his father, Keith. Mark grew up in Vinton and decided to make it his home after graduating from Drake Law School. He even purchased the home he grew up in and lived there for over 50 years. Mark’s grandfather and father were both lawyers and that passion carried down to Mark and two of his brothers. Mark enjoyed working and being a part of a thriving small town community. He served on several community boards including Virginia Gay Hospital, Palace Theater and Vinton Shellsburg School Foundation. He married his college sweetheart, Kathy Donnelly, from Independence and they had two boys. Mark enjoyed practicing alongside his son, John, for 19 years. His youngest son died tragically in an accident in 2009. This hole in his heart gave him even more compassion as his law practice shifted to mostly estate planning and probate work. Mark can still be seen almost daily at the office, although he is no longer meeting with clients. Instead, he is a great mentor and friend to the office staff and has changed his title to, “Of Counsel.” When not at work, Mark can be found playing the guitar, taking photographs, golfing, hanging out at the cabin, or enjoying time with his granddaughters.
