When Crashes Happen

The peak day for fatal crashes shifted slightly, with both Friday and Saturday recording 27 fatal crashes in the current period, compared to Saturday having 24 and Friday 13 in the prior period. Speed Limit Zones

Fatal crashes in the 55 mph speed zone increased slightly from 38 to 40 year-over-year. Manner of Collision

The most dominant manner of collision in both periods was 'The First Harmful Event was Not a Collision with a Motor Vehicle in Transport,' accounting for 59 fatal crashes in the current period, a slight increase from 58 in the prior period. Rural vs Urban

Fatal crashes in urban areas increased slightly from 81 to 83, while those in rural areas increased from 31 to 38 year-over-year.
