When Crashes Happen

The peak day for fatal crashes shifted from Saturday, with 10 fatal crashes in 2022, to Sunday and Tuesday, each recording 9 fatal crashes in 2023. The peak hour also changed, moving from 4 PM with 5 fatal crashes in 2022 to 7 PM with 4 fatal crashes in 2023. Overall, fatal crashes on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) decreased from 20 in 2022 to 14 in 2023.

Speed Limit Zones

Fatal crashes in 45 mph zones decreased from 23 in 2022 to 18 in 2023, remaining the zone with the highest number of fatal crashes. Manner of Collision

The dominant manner of collision for both periods was 'The First Harmful Event was Not a Collision with a Motor Vehicle in Transport', which decreased from 30 fatal crashes in 2022 to 23 in 2023. Angle collisions also decreased from 16 to 12 fatal crashes. Front-to-Rear collisions increased from 1 in 2022 to 3 in 2023, while Sideswipe - Same Direction collisions appeared with 1 fatal crash in 2023, compared to none in 2022.

Rural vs Urban

The majority of fatal crashes occurred in urban areas, with 48 in 2022 and 36 in 2023. Rural fatal crashes increased from 1 in 2022 to 2 in 2023. This resulted in a slight increase in the proportion of rural fatal crashes, from 2.04% in 2022 to 5.26% in 2023.

Arterial roads (Minor Arterial and Principal Arterial) continued to account for the highest number of fatal crashes, decreasing from 35 in 2022 to 28 in 2023. Fatal crashes on Minor Arterial roads decreased from 24 to 16, while those on Local and Collector roads combined decreased from 14 to 7. Fatal crashes on Other Principal Arterial roads increased from 10 to 12.

Person Type

Drivers remained the most represented person type in fatal crashes, decreasing from 78 in 2022 to 61 in 2023. Pedestrian fatalities saw a slight increase from 14 to 15, while bicyclist fatalities decreased from 2 to 1. Passenger involvement increased from 27 in 2022 to 30 in 2023.

Person Injury Severity
