About Kelsey
Kelsey Gilmore-Futeral practices family law in the counties of Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester. Originally from South Dakota, she came to Charleston to be the Captain of the College of Charleston’s Equestrian Team. After graduating with honors, Mrs. Futeral attended the Charleston School of Law, where she also graduated with honors. As a Charleston lawyer, Kelsey focuses on family law, including child custody and visitation, child support, legal separation, and other family court matters. She is also a guardian ad litem (GAL) in South Carolina’s family courts and in private custody cases and cases involving the Department of Social Services. She also served as an attorney for Charleston County’s GAL program. Kelsey also focuses on business law. She served as in-house corporate counsel for one of the largest distributors of furniture products in the Southeast. Kelsey deals with trademarks, enforcement of business contracts, issues regarding the eminent domain of commercial property, adherence with state and federal labor laws, and numerous other corporate law matters. Kelsey Gilmore-Futeral supports the humane treatment of and rights for animals. In law school, she was a founder and director of the Student Animal Legal Defense Fund for South Carolina. She served as the Secretary for Therapy Dogs, Inc., which is a national organization that supports over 12,000 handler/dog teams who volunteer in animal-assisted activities such as visits to hospitals, special needs centers, schools, and nursing homes. She and her husband, Stephan Futeral, regularly take their pet therapy dogs to visit the elderly, the disabled, and children with special needs.
