Mr. Ceppos retired in 2023. Mr. Ceppos’ biography below is provided for historical purposes, only. Mr. Ceppos is a 1975 honors graduate of the National Law Center at George Washington University. He began his legal career in 1975 as a law clerk to the Honorable John F. McAuliffe, in the Circuit Court for Montgomery County. Mr. Ceppos next served under Montgomery County State’s Attorney Andrew Sonner as an assistant state’s attorney. He rose to the position Senior Assistant State’s Attorney, heading up a felony trial team. In 1982, Mr. Ceppos was appointed as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Maryland. During his federal service in that office, Mr. Ceppos served as deputy chief of criminal cases, deputy chief of civil cases, and lead counsel in medical negligence cases. While serving in that office, he handled a number of complex cases at trial and on appeal before the Fourth Circuit, including Federal Tort Claim matters, as well as white collar prosecutions in public corruption and tax evasion cases. Mr. Ceppos is admitted to practice law in Maryland and various federal courts.
