Ms. Covarrubias represents private and public clients in all aspects of litigation from the pleading stage through trial. Ms. Covarrubias defends clients in personal injury and property damage matters as well as employment related matters including wrongful termination, discrimination, harassment and retaliation. She also conducts independent investigations in employment matters. Her public entity work includes litigating claims on behalf of public entities for damage to public property and for power theft. Ms. Covarrubias defends railroad companies in personal injury cases brought under the Federal Employers’ Liability Act as well as passenger claims. Ms. Covarrubias has tried cases by jury in both state and federal court. She has obtained defense verdicts in cases seeking multi-million dollars in damages. She has also tried cases on the plaintiff’s side for public entity clients and has been successful in obtaining favorable verdicts. While attending law school Ms. Covarrubias had the unique experience of serving as the judicial intern to Appellate Judge Fausto Pocar at the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the Hague. Ms. Covarrubias obtained a certificate in International Legal Studies in 2010. Ms. Covarrubias advises clients in areas relating to business disputes as well as conflicts of law and international business. Ms. Covarrubias has successfully represented international clients on issues relating to personal jurisdiction.
