About Sydney
Born and raised in the upstate of South Carolina, Sydney is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of South Carolina. While at USC, she was a Capstone Scholar and Capstone Fellow and was a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society. In her time there, she also earned The Outstanding Achievement and Student Triumph Award. Sydney then attended the Emory University School of Law where she graduated as a Kessler-Eidson Scholar and a Graduating Woman of Excellence. During her time at Emory Law, she was an Amicus Brief Writer of the Emory Law Supreme Court Advocacy Program, a member of the Bankruptcy Developments Journal, President of the Criminal Law Society, and received the Emory Public Interest Grant twice. She was a Student Attorney with the Barton Juvenile Defender Clinic for two years and earned the Pro Bono Publico Medal. Sydney is licensed to practice law in Georgia, Florida, and South Carolina, and spent several years as a Public Defender in Georgia in both the adult and juvenile justice system before moving in the Family Law sector. Sydney has had several of her legal articles published in journals across the country and has published her own children’s book “Grief Came to Visit Today,” which was featured on Oprah’s Book Club list. Sydney is also an Adjunct Professor at the Charleston School of Law where she teaches “Juvenile Delinquency and Dependency” and has taught “Trauma Informed Legal Advocacy.” In her free time, Sydney enjoys volunteering with children’s grief support groups, dancing, reading, and spending time with her two dogs.
