Case Details
Joe Beeman, a journeyman plumber, developed asbestosis due to asbestos exposure from manufacturers who concealed the dangers. Jury returned a verdict against Keene for $1.175 million in actual damages and $5 million in punitive damages. Punitive damages were set aside, and lost life expectancy damages were eliminated on appeal. The remainder of the verdict, with interest, was affirmed.

Trial court set aside punitive damages. Supreme Court refused lost life expectancy as compensatory damages but allowed fear of cancer as compensable. Affirmed 496 N.W. 2d 247 (Iowa 1993).
