Case Details

Christopher Walls, a Union Pacific Railroad Conductor, was injured when a switch was misaligned, causing the train to stop and eject him from the lead car. He suffered significant injuries to his right leg, including a tibial plateau fracture, dislocated knee, and required five surgeries, including a full knee replacement. His injuries prevent him from returning to work as a conductor.

Additional Notes

Union Pacific attorneys argued that the damages amount was - at best - $450k and claimed Mr. Walls was not severely injured, could return to work, and was exaggerating his injury. The jury emphatically rejected the railroad’s arguments and returned a verdict that provided meaningful compensation to Mr. Walls and his family.
