Leon Sierant, 38, of Kenilworth, had his left foot run over by a truck owned by DiFerraro Inc. at St. Michael’s Cemetery. Broke left ankle and five bones, required metal plate and screws, left with a slight limp. Could not return to job as loader, took less strenuous job as forklift operator. Defense maintained Sierant was partly responsible. Court-appointed arbitrator Paul Endler Jr. awarded $750,000, reduced to $562,000 with 25% contributory negligence. Defense rejected award. Settled for $425,000 to Sierant and $75,000 to Liberty Mutual (PIP carrier). Defendant’s insurer is New Jersey Manufacturers Insurance Cos. Reported by Charles Toutant.
