Notable Case Results
Case results reflect publicly available information reported by the listed law firms. They are not results obtained by ThatCarHitMe.com. Every case is unique and must be evaluated on its own facts. Prior results do not guarantee a similar outcome. The results shown are not necessarily representative of all results obtained by these firms. No representation is made that the quality of legal services to be performed is greater than the quality of legal services performed by other lawyers.
Constitutional Law, Sex Crimes
New Hampshire Supreme Court ruled that certain aspects of the NH Sex Offender Registry violate the constitutional prohibition against retrospective and ex post facto laws, making lifetime sex offender registration an unfair punishment for some former sex offenders convicted before the registry laws were enacted. This decision was in the case of John Doe v. State of New Hampshire, Docket No. 2013-496.
Family Law, Divorce
The New Hampshire Supreme Court issued two orders clarifying the treatment of taxes in divorce cases. One upheld prior case law regarding consideration for taxes on property sales if the sale is certain and imminent. The second ruled that tax debt is marital debt, with exclusive Family Court jurisdiction over its allocation.
Sex Crimes, Constitutional Law, Legislative Advocacy
New Hampshire Senate Bill 468, effective June 6, 2016, provides a clear process for Tier 2 and Tier 3 sex offenders convicted before 1992 (or January 1, 1993) to petition the court for relief from sex offender registration requirements. This legislation was enacted in response to the John Doe v. State Supreme Court decision.
