Thomas Thompson

John S. Shaffer

John S. Shaffer, born June 10, 1957, was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1981. He received his B.A. from Ohio Northern University in 1978 with highest distinction and his J.D. from The Ohio State University in 1981. He is a member of the Williams County Bar Association, Northwestern Ohio Bar Association (President, 1988-1989), and Ohio State Bar Association (Workers Compensation Committee, 1985-present; Council of Delegates, 2007-2008). His practice areas include Commercial Litigation, Plaintiff Personal Injury, Probate, Real Estate, Criminal Defense, and Domestic Relations. He has served as General Counsel for several companies and is dedicated to special needs persons, serving on boards for Lutheran Mercy Ministries and Sandy Cay. He is also active in community corrections, serving on the Facility Governing Board of Northwest Community Corrections Center, the Local Community Corrections Board, and the Williams County Drug Court Advisory Board. He is very active in the Ohio State Alumni Association of Northwest Ohio and serves on the David Betts Double Play Diamond Baseball Facility Board. Michael A. Shaffer

Michael A. Shaffer is a lifetime resident of Williams County, Ohio, graduating from Stryker High School in 1983. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bowling Green State University in 1987 and his Juris Doctorate from Toledo College of Law in 1990. Admitted to the Ohio Bar in November 1990 and Federal Courts in 1991, he joined the firm as an associate in 1990 and became a partner in January 1995. Michael is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association and Williams County Bar Association, having served as past president of the latter and a past member of the Ohio State Bar Association’s Council of Delegates. He maintains a varied practice including trial advocacy, real estate, estate planning, probate, personal injury, worker’s compensation, and family law. He is active in community projects in Bryan, serving on the Bryan Area Foundation, St. Patrick’s Catholic School Education Endowment, Maumee Valley Guidance Center, Metropolitan Housing Authority, and Project 2020.

Ryan S. Breininger

Ryan S. Breininger is a lifelong resident of Northwest Ohio, graduating from Fairview High School in 1991 and Heidelberg College in 1995. He earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Toledo in 1998 and was admitted to the Ohio Bar in 1999, joining the firm the same year. He is currently a partner, representing individuals and businesses in estate planning, administration, agricultural law, criminal/traffic, real estate, personal injury, domestic relations, corporate planning, business law, and wrongful death. He also serves as a private mediator. Active in Williams and Defiance Counties, he is a member of the Ohio State and Williams County Bar Associations, having served as president of the latter. He is also a member of The Ohio State Bar Association Council of Delegates and is a trained and certified mediator.

Taylor G. Vance joined the firm in 2022 as an associate attorney. Born in Bryan, Ohio, and raised in Defiance County, he graduated from Fairview High School in 2009. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Ohio Northern University in 2013 and his Juris Doctorate from Ohio Northern University in 2016. He previously practiced in Marion, Ohio, focusing on real estate and probate. Taylor represents individuals and businesses in estate planning, estate administration, agricultural law, real estate, personal injury, domestic relations, business law, guardianships, wrongful death, and appeals. He is active in Williams County, Defiance County, and surrounding areas, and is a member of both the Ohio State and Williams County Bar Associations, currently serving as President of the latter. He is also the solicitor for the Village of Ney and the Village of Sherwood. Taylor is a lifetime member of the Fairview Athletic Boosters and serves as a board member of Cancer Assistance of Williams County.
