Jeff Mitchell
Halifax, NS
Jeff is the owner of NOVA Injury Law. His firm was created to assist injury victims and disabled workers with their legal claims. Before launching NOVA Injury Law, Jeff worked for a large regional firm in the area of insurance law before moving to a plaintiff-side personal injury boutique. NOVA Injury Law is known as an honest, responsive, and medically-focused law firm committed to its clients. Born in Halifax, Jeff attended Saint Mary’s University and completed an honours degree in Criminology. During his time at Saint Mary’s, Jeff founded the SMU Community Development Initiative Levy, a student-backed fund providing seed funds to local community-oriented projects. Since graduating, Jeff has coached the University’s legal case debating society. Jeff was awarded a Saint Mary’s University Alumni of the Year award in 2015. Jeff completed his legal training at Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto. While at Osgoode Hall, Jeff participated in various pro bono projects, including the Legal Aid Clinic and the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto. The latter, a joint effort between doctors and lawyers to ensure quality patient care, brought Jeff before the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, where he represented clients who were victims of unprofessional or negligent treatment by a physician. In addition to his pro bono efforts, Jeff was the leader of the Law School’s Academic Student Government and vice-chair of the Faculty Council. Upon graduation, he was awarded the Osgoode Hall Gold Key Prize. NOVA Injury Law launched when Jeff realized that personal injury victims were being underserved. Serious injury victims were not able to get timely or accurate medical advice paired with experienced legal advice. The firm was quickly known as the doctor-lawyer law firm as clients would often find themselves on calls with Jeff and his wife, Dr. Laura Mitchell. Dr. Mitchell, a practicing Emergency Physician with specialty training in occupational medicine provided the missing ingredient for injury victims managing their limitations and newfound life challenges. Since 2016, NOVA Injury Law has continued to expand from its original desk in a shared office space. Now, the firm operates in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfound & Labrador. Jeff has dedicated his practice to fighting for injury victims. You’ll feel his passion for what he does when you meet him at the office or on a phone call. As the leader of the firm, Jeff handles complex and serious injury cases while guiding the firm’s growth. NOVA Injury Law’s mission is to help as many injury victims in Atlantic Canada as possible - because they need help from talented and passionate legal team to get fair results.
