Clayton J. Crates was born in Findlay, Ohio, and grew up in Toledo, Ohio and Pueblo West, Colorado. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Wittenberg University in 2005 and his Juris Doctor from The University of Toledo College of Law in 2008.
