His career includes serving as Assistant Criminal District Attorney, City Attorney of Tyler, Smith County Criminal District Attorney for five terms, and presiding Judge over the 241st Judicial District Court of Smith County from 2003 through 2022. He is a recipient of the 'Prosecutor of the Year - 1997' award and the 2023 Justinian Award.
