James Curtin brings over a decade of prosecutorial experience to RGLZ, specializing in complex vehicular crimes, trial advocacy, and the meticulous handling of sensitive legal matters. As a seasoned litigator, he has successfully prosecuted a wide range of cases, from misdemeanor offenses to Aggravated Vehicular Homicides, while demonstrating an unwavering commitment to justice and victims’ rights. During his tenure with the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, James served in several critical roles, including as a prosecutor in the Vehicular Crime Bureau, where he directed witnesses ranging from law enforcement and emergency responders to medical examiners and crash reconstruction specialists for hearings and trials. He worked closely with law enforcement at serious injury and fatal crash scenes, offering real-time legal guidance and drafting warrants to secure time-sensitive evidence. James investigated, charged, and brought to trial cases involving charges such as Aggravated Vehicular Homicides before juries in Suffolk County’s Superior Courts. James is well-versed in navigating complex discovery processes and was instrumental in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office’s transition to comply with New York’s Discovery Reform laws. As a member of the eDiscovery IT Committee, he helped implement a web-based case management system, integrating it with external agencies and enabling the seamless prosecution of cases even during the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. His extensive technical proficiency encompasses drafting intricate search warrants for evidence sources such as vehicle event data recorders, infotainment systems, cellular data, and social media accounts, and extends to the effective use of courtroom technology for presenting compelling evidence during trials. A dedicated advocate for public safety, James coordinated and presented the “Choices and Consequences” program, educating high school students across Suffolk County about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving. Since 2019, he has delivered over 20 impactful presentations, fostering awareness and promoting responsible decision-making among young drivers. James has been recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) with the Excellence Award in both 2020 and 2021 for outstanding efforts in deterring impaired driving and enhancing community safety. A continuous learner and innovator, James has undergone advanced training in crash investigation, courtroom technology, and digital media tools to enhance trial presentations. He brings extensive experience in crash reconstruction and emerging forensic technologies to every case.
