The advantage of a single person having both legal experience (as a practicing attorney) and deep technology experience (as a PhD Electrical Engineer with a prior engineering career) can provide advantages for clients in multiple fields, including patents and privacy & security (cybersecurity). Kelce Wilson, Of Counsel for Findlay Craft has a legal practice in both of those fields of law, leveraging his prior career. His engineering experience includes computer programming and working on some of the most advanced military and commercial technologies, such as radars, radar jammers, computational electromagnetics, wireless communication, encryption, and white hat cybersecurity testing. His legal experience includes all aspects of patents: prosecution (applying for patents), litigation, licensing, designing intellectual property (IP) portfolio strategy, and even IP assessment to support multi-million dollar acquisitions. He has led litigation strategy for multiple “bet-the-company” cases, crafting arguments relating to infringement and validity, in trial court and PTAB (IPR) proceedings. He has published in trade publications and peer-reviewed journals, including law review and IEEE technical journal publications, and yet has the ability to explain complex concepts, having held a role as an adjunct professor of electrical engineering for some years.
