About Walter

Walter S. Pettit Jr., known as 'Walt', passed away on April 19, 2024. He was born on November 11, 1926. He served in the Army during WWII and as an Officer in the Army Jag Corp during the Korean War for over 16 years. He graduated from Drury University in 1949 with degrees in Political Science and Economics, and from the University of Missouri-Columbia with a Law Degree in 1953. He started his law practice in 1953 and later moved to Aurora in 1958. He concentrated his practice on estate planning, probate, corporate, and real estate law, serving clients for 67 years. He partnered with his son Scott for over 35 years and his grandson James joined in 2013. He was a member of Sigma Nu (Drury) and Phi Delta Phi (Mizzou). He joined the Masons in 1965 and was an active Shriner, serving as Potentate of Abou Ben Adhem in 1974 and recognized as a 33rd-degree Scottish Rite Mason in 1981. He was lead counsel for all 23 Shriner’s Hospitals and Burn Institutes from 1980 to 2001. He received numerous awards including Aurora Chamber of Commerce 'Man of the Year' (1960), Community Service Award, Lloyd R. Ellis Award, 'Missourian' Award (2012), and was elected to the Aurora Houn Dawg Hall of Fame (2023).
