Case Details
Joseph was a retired veteran but couldn’t keep himself busy enough so he took a job as a handyman at a local garage. He had been working there for a few years keeping the garage clean, moving cars around, and generally helping out with keeping the facility running smooth. One morning he was using a backpack blower to clean out one of the bays and pressed the button to close the bay door. As the steel door closed, it caught the back pack and came down on his neck gradually pushing him to the floor. Joseph was killed when the door closed entirely on him breaking his neck. The garage door failed to have a simple safety cut off that would have sensed him blocking the door, similar to what one might find in a residential garage door. That defect cost Joseph his life.
