Murphy, Falcon & Murphy represented the family of a 19-year-old man who died while in the custody of the Department of Corrections in Hagerstown, MD. The victim suffered a horribly-painful death after fourteen days of constant complaints of stomach pain, which were ignored by correctional officers, the warden, and on-site medical providers. His death was entirely preventable. The victim is survived by his wife and young daughter, who hired Murphy, Falcon & Murphy to file an action against the Department of Corrections and an independent on-site medical provider. Our attorneys fought to ensure that the surviving spouse and child would have the maximum financial resources that the law allowed, in order to support their future living expenses and the child’s higher education. Murphy, Falcon & Murphy negotiated a $1.6 million settlement and established a qualified settlement trust to ensure the long-term financial security of the victim’s family.
