Jury found insurance broker USI Mid Atlantic liable for fraud, breach of duty of good faith and fair dealing, and intentional interference with contract, for seeking to deprive insurance benefits owed to two Bristol Township police officers seriously injured in a traffic accident.

Additional Notes

Largest insurance bad faith verdict ever in Pennsylvania. Two policemen, Michael Egan and Mark Buzby, were hit by a drunken and uninsured driver in August 2005. USI attempted to use backdated waiver forms to deny coverage. Jury awarded $1.6 million in compensatory damages and $6.25 million in punitive damages. Officers had already received over $8 million in other benefits.
