A baby in North Carolina was born with severe birth injuries including paraplegia, blindness, deafness, and cognitive impairment after suffering hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy because the obstetrician and the hospital staff failed to recognize signs of fetal distress on the fetal monitoring strips. This infant, because of his injuries, would require 24-hour care for the remainder of his life. Murphy, Falcon & Murphy fought to ensure that the family had the financial security and resources to provide the care that this child and his family deserved. After years of litigation, including hard-fought motions and discovery, the family received a settlement in excess of $7 million.
