Case Details
The family of India Kager, the woman killed unintentionally during an officer-involved shooting in 2015, and the City of Virginia Beach have agreed to a jury's ruling that the city must pay the Estate of India Kager $800,000 in wrongful death damages. In August, a jury found two of four police officers involved in the incident negligent for their role in Kager’s and Angelo Perry’s (the father of her child) death, deciding for each ruling that the family should be paid $400,000 for a total of $800,000.
Additional Notes
Settlement agreement states there will be no post-trial motions or appeals filed by any party, that the parties uphold their respective positions conveyed during the trial, and that the payment to the estate is not an admission of wrongdoing by the officers.
