Case Details
Sutter Health, a California-based hospital operator, agreed to a $90 million settlement following a 2015 whistleblower lawsuit. The lawsuit alleged that Sutter Health overcharged the federal government by knowingly submitting inaccurate information about the health status of Medicare Advantage beneficiaries, inflating diagnoses and insurance codes.
Additional Notes
Settlement resulted from a 2015 whistleblower lawsuit by former employee Kathy Ormsby. Second-largest Medicare Advantage fraud settlement ever and largest under the False Claims Act for the program. Settlement likely in 2022 or late 2021.
