A San Mateo County jury awarded the victim of a romance scam over $9 million dollars, including $8 million in punitive damages over being schemed out of $600,000 in a romance scam instituted by a self-proclaimed “Founder” of numerous “start-ups” and a “serial entrepreneur”. He would target women in high paying tech jobs in the Silicon Valley.

The victim was schemed out of $600,000. The perpetrator, Brendon ‘Bren’ Farrell, targeted women on dating websites. Five women testified about similar schemes. Farrell filed a cross-complaint which was dismissed by the jury. A companion case by another victim will be going to court next year.
