Trucking Collision - Wrongful Death

Haley Law secured a $13,500,000 settlement on behalf of two minor children for the wrongful death of their parents. The horrific accident happened in December of 2016 when the parents of our two clients were struck from behind by a commercial tractor-trailer while stopped in traffic. The truck driver and his employer disputed liability, claiming that the actions of other drivers involved in the multi-vehicle accident were to blame. Haley Law conducted extensive investigation into the accident, that included: locating and obtaining black box data retrieved from the tractor-trailer, identifying internal documents that reflected unsafe practices maintained by the commercial trucking company, and performing extensive accident reconstruction to identify the cause of the multi-vehicle collision.

Civil Rights - Police Excessive Force

After nearly four years of litigation, Haley Law finally obtained justice for the family of a young man killed during officer-involved shooting death. The City of Santa Clara agreed to pay $5.3 million for shooting an unarmed young man who was experiencing a mental health crisis. Our clients will never be made whole for their loss of their son, but the city, after years of saying their officers did nothing wrong, finally had to face the music on the eve of trial and pay one of the largest ever settlements in the Bay Area.

Civil Rights - Police Excessive Force

In Romero v. City of Vallejo, Haley Law represented the family of a young African-American man shot 31 times by Vallejo Police Department officers in 2012. The officer involved was responsible for shooting and killing two other individuals in 2012, including two persons who were unarmed. The city settled prior to trial.

Commercial Vehicle Collision

Our client was walking down the sidewalk on his way to work when he was struck by a vehicle. Following our investigation into the collision, it was discovered that the vehicle was a public works truck that struck a drop box, lost control, rode up on to the sidewalk, and hit our client.
