Medical Malpractice
A Pennsylvania jury determined that a gynecologist’s carelessness was a substantial factor in a woman’s death from ovarian cancer. The case involved Dr. George Valenta performing surgery on Sharon Zawatski for a pelvic cyst in 2004, rupturing the cyst and failing to remove the left ovary and fallopian tube as claimed. Ms. Zawatski was later diagnosed with a recurrence of ovarian cancer in the left ovary and died in 2008. The jury deliberated for less than two hours before returning the verdict.
