A $495 million jury verdict in the first NEC case against Abbott Laboratories (Gill v. Abbott Laboratories, No. 2322-CC01251, 22nd Judicial Circuit Court of Missouri). The plaintiff's minor child developed necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) after being given Similac and/or Enfamil cow’s milk-based premature infant formula. The jury awarded $95 million in compensatory damages and $400 million in punitive damages. Hon. John (Jack) Garvey was co-lead counsel.
